A Special Visitor

Last Friday we had a very special visitor in St. Louise’s……Mrs. Claus! It was really exciting.

She read us some stories and afterwards we had hot chocolate and cookies.  Mrs Claus told us all about Santa and the reindeer and how busy the elves are in the workshop.

Where We Live…….

Junior Infants have been learning about the different types of houses that people in Ballyfermot live in. Click on the link below to see what the children discovered!

Our interview with Sr.Justine

In second class we have been learning about interviews in english and about long ago in history. So we thought it would be a nice idea to invite Sr. Justine to our room and we could interview her.

         We all had a question to ask her but here are just a few examples;

-How long have you been a teacher?   38 years

-What was your first job?   I worked in a school hospital with sick hospital for four years.

-When you were young what sort of games did you play?   We played the saucer game – on one saucer was a rag, another saucer had a ring, another one had a pea and the last saucer had clay on it.A blindfold was put on the person and they chose a saucer. If the person picked the ring that meant you would get married, the pea meant you would be rich, the rag meant you would be poor and the clay meant you would die.

But we were glad to hear that as a child she played hopscotch and skipping also.

-If you were bold in school what was your punishment?  I remember getting slapped with a ruler.

These are just a few of the questions we asked,we found it very interesting and we are glad we didn’t grow up long ago.Thank you Sr.Justine for taking the time and we wish you a happy and healthy retirement.

Exciting News!

As all of you know, Sr Justine, the principal of the Senior School is retiring at Christmas. Everyone in our school has agreed that it would be a good time to combine both the Junior and the Senior Schools together to make one bigger school from next January. Mrs. Crowley will be the principal. We are all looking forward to being one big school together from Junior Infants to Sixth class.

Reading is Fun

In 2nd class the girls have been very busy reading books. Many of the girls took part in the Readathon and raised lots of money for a great cause, well done girls.  Between us all we have read so many books. If you would like to know about the books we have read come over to our rooms and read the book reports we have completed on these books.

Making Patterns!!

Here are Ellie's in patterns!

Great news from Mathletics!

We had some great news for our school this week. Kayleigh in Ms. Mackessy’s class and David in Ms. Murray’s class made it into the top 35 students in the WORLD on mathletics! They were also in the top 10 students in Ireland. Well done David and Kayleigh. Keep it up! Mathletics is a great website where our first and second class children can log in and play maths games. Why don’t you keep an eye on the website www.mathletics.ie to see if you spot anyone else from our school. I wonder who will be next to make it onto the leaderboard?

Scary Cakes!

Today after break we found a letter and some ingredients from “The Horrid Hallowe’en Baker”. There were plain cupcakes and we could decorate them with rats tails, frog tongues, cats bogies, fangs and muck. We were not scared!

We took turns and decorated the cupcakes. They look scary but we think that they will taste nice!

Halloween Art

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome some of the parents into the junior infant classrooms to help with Halloween art activities. The children loved demonstrating their artistic skills and the parents enjoyed the afternoon too, as it gave them the opportunity to chat to other parents and also to meet their child’s classmates.

We would like to thank Ms. Grant for organising the afternoon and we look forward to many more similar events throughout the year.

Shape pictures

We made shape pictures for our homework. Ms Purcell thinks we did a super job. What do you think?
